Position Overview:

Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions (MDS) is one of the newest of Multimatic’s North American divisions. It is a supplier of suspension parts and welded assemblies to the automotive industry, manufacturing front and rear lower control arms, links, stabilizer bars and various welded assemblies in a modern 240,000 square foot facility.

MDS is looking for a Tool and Die Maker who will help maintain and repair the numerous tools and dies used within the division. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for providing production departments with safe, well maintained tools and dies, while ensuring quality and the ability to meet production requirements in a timely manner

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solve tool and die problems arising during production runs, with minimum interruption to production.
  • Complete all work forms including preventative maintenance reports, spare part lists, time sheets, tool inventory, and tool status, Enter all into MVP.
  • Make engineering changes, modifications, and repairs to existing fixtures, productions parts, and tools. Ensure that try-outs meet the production schedule requirement(s) or customer delivery dates. 
  • Ensure all work adheres to quality standards and the requirements of the quick die change program.
  • Actively participate in the design and development of methods of tooling and fixtures in order to meet quick die change objectives.
  • Build new tooling or fixtures from strip layout drawings or customer product drawings.
  • Test dies in the appropriate press and produce samples to match customer drawings and specifications
  • Complete tig and mig welding as required.
  • Work on blank to transfer dies.
  • Complete grippers’ adjustments and the rebuilding of damaged components.
  • Implement SPC procedures as they relate to customer drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in directing and overseeing the work of apprentices.
  • Advise management of all potential problems or concerns and offer any opportunities for improvement.

Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of a provincial tool and die apprenticeship.
  • Five years of experience as a registered tool and die maker.
  • Excellent knowledge of the automotive industry and press department equipment.
  • Experience with nitrogen and pneumatics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Must be willing to work on the night shift.
