Multimatic Technical Centre (MTC), located in Markham, Ontario is a division of Multimatic Inc. MTC has a comprehensive development team supporting Multimatic’s manufacturing divisions while also providing contract engineering services to a variety of outside customers. The facility has design, analysis, controls/software/electronics (CSE), testing, prototype, composites, and motorsports departments enabling very efficient product development. MTC develops products for major automotive OEM’s and a growing number of niche vehicle manufacturers.
MTC is currently seeking to recruit a Program/Project Manager to join our growing team.
Position Overview:
The role of the MTC Program/Project Manager is to work with the departments located at this facility to support the design and development of the product from initial concept to production release. The Multimatic facility that will be responsible for manufacturing the product will assign a Program Manager that is responsible for the overall program, including being the primary end customer interface, purchase and setup all production manufacturing equipment, PPAP, etc. The MTC Program/Project Manager will work closely with the Multimatic Program Manager to ensure the product is developed on-time, on-budget, and satisfies the manufacturing requirements.
During the Acquisition Phase of a project, the MTC Program/Project Manager will be responsible for compiling all available project information (Statement of Requirements, CAD data, timing, etc.) and working with the departments at MTC to generate a quote for the engineering work required to get from concept development to production release. This includes documenting the project timing estimates, risk assessments and associated mitigation plans, and quote assumptions.
Once a project is received, the MTC Program/Project Manager is responsible for coordination of the MTC project activities to ensure that the functional, timing and cost requirements are all met. The MTC Program/Project Manager is also responsible for the planning and execution of the DVP&R activities throughout the product development process. It is expected that this position will Lead/Coordinate projects via a proactive, hands-on approach (directly interacting with the employees in all of the supporting departments, being involved in prototype builds, etc.).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop, lead and deliver project plans for new proposals and existing projects through liaison with cross-functional departments leaders
Oversee resource planning, ensure resources are available to support project activities, liaise with functional areas to ensure replacements are provided if necessary.
Risk planning and management throughout project – plays a key role in anticipating, escalating and mitigating potential risk
Manage project timing within overall program plan; track progress changes and develop recovery plans when necessary
Track and control project spend within allocated budget using forecasting tools
Ensure quality of deliverables, manage achievement of project deliverables at program milestones, and facilitate customer sign-off at gateway stages
Collate and deliver progress status reports
Act as the external customer liaison and reporting for stand-alone projects
Be involved in DFMEA, DVP&R, FEA, product drawings, identification of key characteristics, and design review processes including gates, milestones, etc.
Consult on and resolve quality issues as they arise
Interface/interact with internal stakeholders (testing, design, analysis, prototype, etc.) to ensure project deliverables are on track and progressing in a timely manner
Maintain open communication with various interacting departments including other divisions of Multimatic, as necessary
Report on program status and identifying critical issues
Act as primary point of communication interface with the customer for the respective program
Develop resource plans to support new projects to enable flawless/successful product development
Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct line departmental supervisory responsibilities, but carries out appropriate leadership / project management and coordination of engineers and assembly technicians for the program. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, reviewing and presenting work amongst the program team.
Education and Experience:
Engineering degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
PMP designation is an asset
Minimum 8+ years of auto industry experience with 5+ years of program/project management experience
Experience in managing a program from initial design to production release would be ideal
Experience with the development of mechatronic systems is an asset
Must be able to read and fully interpret Engineering Drawings and Standards (applicable GD&T knowledge preferred)
High level of organizational skills required. Able to effectively organize and manage competing priorities; utilize effective problem solving techniques
Strong cross-functional team leadership with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated sound decision making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively interact with outside customers, suppliers, and all levels of employees internally
Intermediate to advanced computer skills specifically in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc..); some experience with CAD software preferred
