Materials Manager

The Position

We are looking for a Materials Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all materials functions to ensure production needs are met. This role is a key member of the site's management team and plays an important role in supplying superior, quality parts, on time, to our customers. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor overall procedures, methods, projects, policies, and programs designed to improve MRP control efficiency and company profitability
  • Utilize MRP software system to aid in the scheduling of manufactured parts and outside processing vendors
  • Advise other department managers of any potential problems, concerns and opportunities for improvement
  • Meet or exceed all business plan objectives
  • Ensure active communication flow with customers and suppliers
  • Forecast and schedule deliveries based on evolving business inputs
  • Understand freight processes, monitor vendor delivery methods, and anticipate and resolve issues 
  • Maintain sound relationships with vendors and suppliers to maximize goodwill and ensure smooth inter-company transactions
  • Direct efforts to source materials, components, outside processes, and contracts
  • Oversee inventory efforts and enforce controls
  • Constantly monitor industry pricing and product cost in order to maintain the best possible overall profitability for the company
  • Keep abreast of changes to customs procedures and international trade agreements and actively communicate with other stakeholders 
  • Issue customer concerns reports to management
  • Promote health and safety and ensure good housekeeping at all times
  • Adopt and support KAIZEN activities including soliciting continuous improvement activities as part of the company's GEAR activities
  • Ensure all work is in compliance with certifications and standards
  • Conduct regular employee performance reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  • Completion of a college diploma or a university degree in business, supply chain or related discipline
  • Professional designation in materials or purchasing (CPIM or APIC) is an asset
  • 10 + years of experience working in materials acquisition or purchasing for a manufacturing facility  (automotive industry is preferred)
  • 5 - 7 years in a similar role
  • Must have experience with SAP and good working knowledge of purchasing and MRP systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements
  • Ability to interact with all stakeholder levels (employees, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong computer skills (manufacturing control systems, MS Office, etc.)
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with MRP systems in an automotive manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural organization
