Design Engineer

Location: Multimatic Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Markham, Ontario, Canada

Scope of Position:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in advanced surfacing and modeling.
  • 3D design utilizing Catia an asset.
  • Interpret and adhere to customer requirements, specifications, and industry guidelines.
  • Review mould design with manufacturing team to assess design for manufacturability.
  • Design all other tooling / fixtures as directed or required.
  • all documentation as required including mould design / part design / engineering changes and document control procedures.
  • Write technical reports and documentation.
  • Lead design reviews.
  • Manage all project expectations and advise manufacturing team and management of project status, timing, resource allocation and capability.
  • maintain accurate timesheets
  • maintain job books
  • create reports and releases as required
  • attend meetings, present results, and perform demonstrations as required
  • perform manual calculations and tolerance stacks as required
  • review results/drawings to ensure that there are no errors
    • observe all company safety rules, policies, and procedures
    • ensure adequate communication with other program team members
    • attend all required training courses
    • participate in MAMT’s continuous improvement activities
    • foster good employee relations
    • prepare timing estimates as required
    • lead the design and development of new products
    • compare the predicted and measured performance as data becomes available
    • be cognizant of prototype builds and review progress with an eye for product improvement and potential build issues
    • conduct engineering and design reviews as required
    • ensure that the customer’s requirements, which include project timing, are understood and met
    • prepare purchase orders
    • provide training, guidance, and assistance to co-workers as required
    • perform all other duties as determined by the General Manager or his designate

Basic Requirements:

  • College or university degree in engineering or a minimum of four years’ experience performing engineering tasks.
  • Knowledge of Composite Materials an asset
  • excellent knowledge of computer-aided design tools
  • good written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent organizational skills
  • strong industrial and manufacturing background
  • must be familiar with industry standard Windows applications
  • must be able to work independently
  • must have solid background in GD&T
  • must be able to create DFMEA’s and have good knowledge of PFMEA’s
  • must be familiar with ISO 9001 procedures

Training Requirements

A minimum of one of the following CAD packages as required to perform tasks:

  • CadKey, Catia, PDGS, I-DEAS, or CGS
  • MathCad (if required to perform tasks)
  • GD&T
  • DFMEA
  • ISO 9001
  • MAMT Procedures
  • Kaizen
