Materials Supervisor

Anton Manufacturing is a production facility of Multimatic Inc. and is a leading supplier of stampings, hinges, door checks and mechatronic products to the North American automotive industry. Anton Mfg. uses flexible production systems that allow rapid product changeovers, helping drive manufacturing efficiency.

Multimatic Anton is currently looking for a Materials Supervisor who will be responsible to oversee, coordinate, supervise and participate in the daily work of Materials department which may included but not limited to warehouse scheduling, inventory transaction timeliness/accuracy and cycle counting, supplier performance, returnable container management, quality systems, scheduling, ECN/NPL, releasing, expediting, logistics, and outside process control. Supervise and build a motivated team that is reliable, consistent and knowledgeable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis of customer demand, sales forecast, supply chain risk, capacity, and historical material usage to develop inventory parameters across the purchase to ship supply chain.
  • Manage system to evaluate, and monitor and on shortages that impact on production schedules that, cause downtime or some cost element.
  • Coordinates ECN/NPL activities with suppliers and internal departments. Serves as primary interface between Materials and AQP.
  • Ensure the adequate flow of material to and from production and proactively communicates deviations to stake holders. Reduce/Eliminate root cause associated with expedites.
  • Ensure supplier premium freight costs are controlled and non departmental freight costs are distributed to the correct department or supplier.
  • Oversee Defective Material Notices through to timely closure, compile DMN reports, and facilitate supplier in achieving effective corrective actions. Interface with Supplier Development group to improve supply base.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of inventory by implementing and managing, in conjunction with Finance an inventory control system, capable of identifying discrepancies in physical inventory counts, cycle counts, supplier counts and taking corrective action to guard against inconsistencies in the future.
  • Continuously evaluate warehouse to plant material flow. Oversee daily warehouse scheduling activities to ensure we have the right parts at the right time.
  • Assist with compiling Key Performance Indicators for monthly management meetings.
  • Ensure month end activities are completed on time and SAP errors are fixed on a regular basis.
  • Reduce obsolescence and waste of materials.
  • Train employees and improve/maintain cross training to ensure seamless day to day operations.
  • Resolve day to day problems using effective leadership and problem solving skills and escalate to Materials Manager as necessary to ensure both internal and external customer performance is not affected.
  • Participate in, provide expert advice to Employee Involvement Teams, Kaizen Teams, and occasionally participate on Problem Solving Teams.
  • Ensure quality systems are documented and up to date. Represent Materials in audits as needed.
  • Provide feedback to Materials Manager on resources and training needs.
  • Ensure compliance to all Health & Safety rules and housekeeping principals. Ensure substandard conditions and practices identified in monthly plant safety audits are corrected.
  • Maintain the confidentially of the company and its business.
  • Adhere to established company policies, procedures, terms, conditions, and legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
  • Attend meetings as required, raise awareness on the affect of new additions or changes to current system. Make recommendations to ensure successful implementation.
  • Analyze and investigate issues that are presented by various departments using problem solving techniques.   Provide leadership, direction and hands-on support in critical situations.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Adopt and practice Kaizen Principles, Concepts and participates in Gear activities.
  • Follow all general, departmental and position procedures where applicable as indicated in the level III Procedure manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work in compliance and conform to all current customers and or government standards were applicable (Example: ISO & TS etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma or a University Degree. A professional designation in Materials i.e. APICS certification.
  • Seven to ten years Materials experience in a manufacturing environment that may be similar to the automotive industry
  • Good working knowledge of SAP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees both within the organization and with suppliers, sub-contractors.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees within a multicultural environment.
  • Computer Application Software knowledge - Excel, Microsoft Word, Access 97, WordPerfect and Outlook.
  • Computer skills in the area of: Manufacturing Control Systems, Windows, Word processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, MS Project.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
