Multimatic Mfg. is looking for a  Packaging Engineer in the Process Engineering Department.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Key Responsibilities and Authorities:

    • Responsible for retrieving and monitoring parts packaging work center performance, maintaining, updating and presenting monthly open issues, championing continuous improvement opportunities on new/existing equipment, and speaking with supporting data not opinion
    • Familiar with various OEM (FCA, Ford, Honda, Toyota, GM, Tesla, etc.) web based packaging portals and populating data as required per required due dates
    • Responsible for researching, ordering new and replacement program specific component racking, packaging and dunnage for various OEM’s and internal WIP needs, following through until final install and acceptance
    • Responsible for researching, ordering new and replacement program specific storage racking/shelving for new business and Process Engineering departmental needs, following through until final install and acceptance
    • Responsible for the ordering of new equipment to the Mechanisms Group Machine, Tooling and Programming specifications, coordinating the development, delivery and integration while working with internal stakeholders to ensure equipment complies with all financial and manufacturing/layout requirements. Travel locally and internationally (as required) to participate in onsite meetings and acceptance trials
    • Attend quote meetings and/or develop internal detailed costed packaging and dunnage quotes, review/revise with management and distribute approved copies, speak to and support costing provided, and quotes may be based on existing knowledge or budgetary costs provided
    • Issue RFQ’s to vendors conveying requirements, envisioned part processing steps, adequate specifications and requirements, etc. to ensure a robust detailed quote response, while addressing/pursuing responses to vendor questions. Work with Process Engineers to convey packaging cost development methodologies.
    • Thoroughly review vendors quotes and ensure they meet the RFQ requirements, request clarification as required and challenge/request justification of cost
    • Champion and hold open issues meetings internal and external, schedule, document meeting minutes, assign and follow-up on tasks in various departments
    • Support customer visits, calls and assembly plant visits (as required) in a highly professional manner always understanding your audience and being an ambassador of the department, division and company
    • Develop Process Engineering program specific Capital Approval Packages and follow-up on approval, issue/pursue approval of purchase orders, seek approval of invoices and work within an established program or divisional budget
    • Working with AQP coordinate the shipment and repair of packaging/racking to OEM authorized vendors
    • Support the development and approval of Supplier/Sub-Tier Packaging Instructions when required
    • Work in a safe professional manner at all times, adhering to Multimatic’s Employee Handbook, Provincial and Federal requirements
    • Ensure that a PHSR is completed and is documented on new equipment and assist in addressing any safety issues
    • Investigate potential vendors for parts handling technologies and packaging equipment, pursue NDA’s and work with the Mechanisms Group to ensure vendors are reviewed and are viable
    • Work with equipment vendors, coordinate and lead training sessions of shift Assembly supervisors/lead hands, line operators and Maintenance department personnel
    • Participate in/lead various program related meetings, GEAR Program, Continuous Improvement initiatives, KAIZEN and Gemba’s, perform LPA’s, be involved with TPM’s and support J.H.S.C. activities
    • Work closely with various departments (Maintenance, Tool room, Production, Materials, Warehouse, Quality Assurance) to line issues are addressed to ensure shipments are met, and AQP and Test Lab for new business opportunities, part/process qualification of current changes and future opportunities
    • Work with the Mechanism Group on divisional goals and directives
    • Complete tasks as assigned by ECN’s, DMN’s, Launch Open Issues, Quality Open Issues, Flawless Launch, etc. providing evidence and acknowledge their closure
    • Responsible for developing process related documentation, such as setup and changeover instructions, operator instructions, process flow diagrams, safety and lockout, dummy parts, process parameters and assisting in developing and updating PFMEA’s
    • Responsible for developing/maintaining process capability, time studies on manual processes and equipment and investigate bottlenecks and product variation
    • Ability to review and revise prepared materials for correctness to minimize errors and ensure clarity
    • Adherence to Departmental, Divisional and Group Job Instructions and Forms, IATF and ISO14001, WHMIS and Customer Specific standards and their development
    • Support and back-up fellow team members as required
    • Attend training as required by the division or customer locally or internationally
    • Responsible for saving, filing and archiving of departmental documentation
    • Ensure a daily/shift presence in the plant speaking to line team members so to understand firsthand the issues and problems they encounter
    • Visually assess the general condition of packaging within the building and raise any concerns of damage and losses to trigger their replacement
    • Coordinate with the Maintenance Fabricator(s) the repair of any Multimatic owned containers/bins, racks, shelves
    • Follow all general procedures where applicable as indicated in the General Procedures section of the Level III Procedure manual
    • Follow all Departmental General Procedures as well as Procedures for this position as indicated in the Level III Procedure manual
    • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Basic Requirements :

  • Canadian issued or recognized for equivalency University Degree or College Diploma in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering/Technologist, Mechatronics Minor/experience would be an asset
  • Eng. or PMP would be an asset but not a requirement
  • Three to Five years working experience in packaging, dunnage, parts processing, storage, containerization or related field or discipline
  • Able to travel locally and internationally as required
  • Self-motivated, able to make sound judgements and work independently towards successful task completion
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to independently plan day-to-day and future work activities
  • Hands-on job style, being involved and helping fellow Multimatic team members investigate and resolve issues
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications, understand GD&T, research requirements for clarity and correctness
  • Good knowledge of Government legislation in the areas of Health and Safety, Environment, Employment Standards, Fire Code, Canadian Standards Association, sound judgement when reviewing safety items, etc.
  • Good technical report writing abilities, excellent understanding of email writing/audience etiquette
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods, ability to collect and analyze data, document open issues, prepare action plans and follow-up through to completion
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook) and CAD programs
  • Good knowledge of production reporting systems in an automotive/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to manage tasks in fast paced, dynamic, timing critical work environment while being a team player within the department and division
  • Ability to successfully interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to read, write and speak English fluently
