Final Assembly Manager

Multimatic's Niche Vehicle Assembly Europe (MNVAE), located in Coventry UK, is a world-class facility responsible for the production of future bespoke vehicles, and is currently seeking a Final Assembly Manager to join its team.

The Final Assembly Manager will report to the Divisional General  Manager and will initially be focused on setting up a complex low volume bespoke vehicle assembly plant, and performing activities across multiple manufacturing disciplines in an environment of continuous improvement.  Ultimately, the successful candidate will ensure that complete, quality vehicles are assembled and delivered on time, which will include planning, organizing, directing and overseeing the day to day Plant operations, including approving technical approaches, plant equipment and processes, while effectively acquiring, leading and developing a team of skilled Technician Leaders and Technicians, and efficiently allocating these resources to exceed the customers’ expectations and ensure optimal output. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach and drive systematic problem solving, process improvements including technical approaches and plant equipment, in order to eliminate organizational or operational roadblocks, ensure optimal output and manage the non-conformance process.
  • Plan, organize, direct and oversee the day to day Plant operations, including providing technical management of the operational staff resources, and acquiring technical resources for departmental activities.
  • Ensure the quality of work of the team meet or exceed the required standards, provide training and support where required, and ensure the team operate in the most efficient way to ensure timely delivery.
  • Lead production planning and methods activity to ensure schedules are accurate and optimised.
  • Represent the Final Assembly department in production meetings, ensuring the department schedule is on track and any questions regarding new or existing orders are raised and answered, and risks or issues escalated.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports, ensuring Lessons Learned actions are integrated into forward planning activities.
  • Develop and execute integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provide input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Be accountable for documentation of all prototype jobs and issues as orders are built.
  • Proactively maintain a safe, incident and injury free work environment and champion quality improvement activities, while adhering to company health and safety policies.
  • During the prototype pilot build phase ensure release feedback and any work instruction updates are completed, manufacturing layouts and BOM’s are accurate, and that all manufacturing feedback is communicated using the correct process.
  • Ensure all vehicles have been checked before being processed to QC, ensuring all items in the BOM have been issued and all operations are completed correctly.
  • Liaise with the (PVT) Plant Office Engineering and Programme team in any R&D tasks as required.
  • Liaise with any on-site Suppliers and work closely with the Purchasing and Material Managers to ensure clear parts demand, shortfall or quality issues are raised and actioned quickly.
  • Assist with conducting appraisals for Final Assembly staff, Talent management and Succession Planning.
  • Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality relating to programs and personnel information at all times.

 Education, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum HNC/HND level qualifications.
  • A degree in automotive manufacturing or production engineering, an engineer, or similarly experienced in automotive or other bespoke high value manufacturing experience and with a track record of operational delivery and new product introduction (NPI) / continuous improvement (CI) project management
  • Demonstrated strength and sound knowledge working within automotive programs
  • Proven skill in automotive product development process and activities
  • Good communication and professional presentation skills for customer and supplier interfacing
  • Effective leadership, management and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability organising and managing priorities, utilising problem solving techniques
  • Good knowledge of Government legislation in the areas of Health & Safety, Labour Relations, Employment Standards and Pay
  • Demonstrated effectiveness interacting with all levels in the business and within the plant team to drive and direct with appropriate behaviours during challenging transition periods
  • Commercial analysis and budgeting skills, experience working to customer contract terms
  • Computer literate, with advanced MS Word, Powerpoint & Excel skills/abilities, with MS Project expertise preferred
  • Able to acquire Technician resources for department activities, provide technical management of the operational staff and lead process improvements.
  • Knowledge of Lean transformational tactics and strategies would be ideal to drive standardization and continuous improvement throughout the organization
