Materials Manager

Location: Multimatic Niche Vehicles Assembly Europe, Coventry, United Kingdom

Multimatic's Niche Vehicle Assembly Europe (MNVAE), located in Coventry UK, is a world-class facility responsible for the production of future bespoke vehicles, and is currently seeking a Materials Manager to join the team to coordinate the activities of the Materials function within the plant to ensure the constant flow of quality parts to line side to flawlessly maintain vehicle build.

The Material Manager will work closely with the Quality Manager to ensure QA parts are available for build.  Knowledge of goods receiving, shelving/storage and picking methods within an assembly facility will be required. This role will also involve developing and working with a significant European Logistics supplier. Train & develop the Materials team to meet the present and future needs of the business.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Establish and monitor overall procedures, methods, projects, policies, and programs designed to improve MRP control efficiency and company profitability
  • Develop robust Material labeling, racking, picking and kitting processes in a compact in Plant warehouse layout.
  • Work with the Quality Manager to ensure only quality parts are delivered from the suppliers and then to line side within the assembly plant.
  • Work with Purchase Manager to run a daily part shortage meeting and quickly resolve shortfalls with suppliers.
  • Experienced in handling and managing complex complete vehicle Bill of Material (BOM) documents with complex assembly levels and multiple logistic suppliers
  • Maintain and control appropriate inventory levels both with Multimatic internal supply and with a significant European Logistics provider.
  • Advise other department managers of any potential problems, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
  • Meet or exceed all objectives/requirements of the business plan.
  • Follow up on correspondence with Suppliers either verbally and/or in writing as required.
  • Participate in and provide expert advice to Employee Involvement Teams, Kaizen Teams and occasionally participate on Problem Solving Teams.
  • Ensure compliance to all Health & Safety rules and housekeeping principals. Ensure substandard conditions and practices identified in monthly plant safety audits are corrected.
  • Assist in the sourcing of all materials, components, outside processes, and contracts.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the company and its business.
  • Constantly monitor industry pricing and product cost in order to maintain the best possible overall profitability for the company.
  • Keep informed on the latest changes to Customs Procedures and inform other department and employees, especially in regards to NAFTA and the Automotive Trade Agreement
  • Work in compliance with TS16949 Standards and ISO 14001.
  • Maintain due diligence in regard to environmental matters, minimize any potentially harmful incidents and work in compliance with ISO 14001. Follows the environmental guidelines for aspects as outlined in the job training requirements.

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Completion of a University Degree or higher qualification. A professional designation in either Materials or Purchasing is preferred.
  • Extensive hands on experience with Materials or Purchasing in a manufacturing environment in automotive or similar to the automotive industry.
  • Good knowledge of Government legislation in the areas of Health & Safety, Labour Relations, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Pay Equity, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of Purchasing and MRP systems.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees both within the organization and with, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc.
  • Supervisory skills in the area of, Interaction and Communication, Orientation, Company Policies, Absenteeism, and Negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilites:

The successful applicant will be responsible for recruiting direct reports within the Material handling. Leading this team by example will include excellent communication skills, planning, work assignment, and reviewing work amongst the Material team. Clarity and focus to deliver a challenging project on time and cost are essential.
