SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the material management function relating to the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of material to meet company objectives and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes (with production) optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying cost and premium transportation charges
  • Monitors delivery performance
  • Assists in launches of new product and equipment
  • Establishes procedures and supervises physical inventories
  • Ensures proper contact with customers relating to releases and deliveries
  • Performs sales order entry functions as needed
  • Responsible for NAFTA reporting
  • Generates request for quotation (RFQ’s)
  • Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery
  • Oversees the purchasing and/or contracting for materials, supplies, equipment and services for the operation of the Company. Confers with requesting parties when specific sources are requested. Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages
  • Develops, establishes, and provides for the maintenance of ordering and reporting systems that relate to the materials functions including MRP
  • Responsible for customer returnable rack program. Maintains adequate control on rack inventory to ensure that the appropriate racks are available for production support
  • Establishes and maintains inventory procedures and work instructions, ensuring that QS/TS guidelines are being met.
  • Organizes warehouse and other storage areas to support a First in First Out (FIFO) rotation of inventory
  • Advises material handlers on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped along with methods and use of equipment in handling, storing and shipping stock

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises Purchasing, Materials Analysts, Scheduling, Shipping and Receiving, forklift operators, and other relevant associates.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Must have proficient PC skills, including the ability to create and interpret spreadsheets and word processing documents.  Current experience working with materials management software (ERP) is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree, with a minimum of two years experience as a scheduler, material control or shipping supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
