Position Overview: Tool Room Manager

The Multimatic Mechanisms Group manufactures high-quality closure hardware systems for all vehicle applications. With facilities in North America and Europe, and representation in all major markets, the Multimatic Mechanisms Group is a world-class, full-service supplier providing stamped, profile, cast and forged hinge systems for all applications including door, hood, trunk, liftgate/decklid and sliding doors, as well as closure-checking, -assist and power devices. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES       

  1. Prioritizing toolroom tasks.
  2. Attend production meetings to ensure the toolroom is ready for the day’s schedule.
  3. Support production schedule as determined from production meeting.
  4. Maintaining inventory of perishable tooling.
  5. Coordinating work with outside vendors for spare parts.   
  6. Coordinating Continuous Improvement on tooling.           
  7. Review Tool Service Reports and schedule repairs as required.        
  8. Ensure that all personnel are working in a safe and efficient manner.
  9. Support and encourage KAIZEN activities.
  10. Solicit GEAR activities from staff to meet corporate goals.
  11. Conduct employee performance reviews for department personnel minimum annually.
  12. Submits training needs to HR as determined from departmental needs and employee evaluations.
  13. Adopt and practice Kaizen Principles and Concepts.
  14. Participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities.
  15. Follow all general procedures where applicable as indicated in the GENERAL PROCEDURES section of the level III Procedure manual.
  16. Follow all DEPARTMENTAL GENERAL PROCEDURES as well as procedures for this position as indicated in the level III Procedure manual.
  17. Perform other duties as required.
  18. Work in compliance and conform to TS16949 and ISO14001 standards.
  19. Will ensure that all individuals within their department work in compliance and conform to TS16949 and ISO14001.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship or equivalent.
  2. Five years experience as a Toolmaker or equivalent.
  3. Two years experience as a Toolroom Supervisor/Foreman/Lead Hand.
  4. Two - five years experience as a Toolroom Manager or equivalent.
  5. Good knowledge of Government legislation in the areas of Health & Safety (OHSA, WHMIS, etc.), Employee Relations, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Pay Equity, WCB, etc.
  6. Excellent problem solving techniques.
  7. Supervisory and management skills in a multicultural environment.
  8. Excellent knowledge of the press department and equipment.
  9. Computer skills in the areas of databases, spreadsheets, word processing, CAD.
  10. Ability to successfully interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural environment.
  11. Ability to read, write and speak English.
