Multimatic Indiana - Butler is looking for a Tool Room Manager who will report to the Assistant General Manager-Operations and  be responsible for supervision, direction and implementation of all Tool Room activity in order to optimize production efficiencies of plant equipment with focus on aspects of safety, cost control, and product quality in an automotive manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES       

  • Provide input in the sourcing, design, and construction of new tools and current tooling changes.
  • Provide technical support for product development and design to tooling engineering when needed.
  • Demonstrate command of latest tooling technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF/TS 16949 Standards.
  • Institute, review and rationalize all PM’s and improve program to reduce downtime and improve overall maintenance costs.
  • Ability to lead a multi-technical team among multiple shifts and ensure open and effective communication within the department, all other departments, external contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead and facilitate corrective action and continuous improvement teams.
  • Responsible for the daily approval of associate timecards and accurate completion of all attendance paperwork.
  • Experience with PLC, Robotics and a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Assess, develop and institutionalize associate training needs to improve skills through internal coaching, training and/or external training.
  • Effectively manage/direct all department associates; assess performance and provide evaluations, administer discipline, oversee vacation, over time and all other department/plant programs and activities are in compliance with established company procedure/policy, following all applicable provisions of federal and state labor laws and guidelines.
  • Schedule and ensure timely completion of all facility and equipment work orders.
  • Coordinate weekly schedules to optimize skilled trade effectiveness when equipment is available.
  • Plan, schedule and manage all shut down related activities.
  • Establish and maintain a positive service oriented atmosphere and timely repair of production equipment.
  • Construct, maintain, and test equipment, machinery and components and ensure repair parts are readily available.
  • Recommend a budget plan and participate in capital projects.
  • Drive productivity, safety and process improvement opportunities.
  • Utilize instructions, manuals, pre-established guidelines and forms to perform the functions of the job and recommend opportunities for improvement to internal systems.
  • Be flexible, capable and willing to provide assistance to tasks as department manager deems necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Four years experience with applicable skilled trade, engineering and/or journeyman experience, in a manufacturing environment. Technical certificate and/or associate degree, with a minimum of two years supervisory/leadership experience. Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Three to Five years previous experience as a Tooling Engineer is preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the assembly department and press department equipment.
  • Computer skills in the area of spreadsheets, word processing, CAD, CMM, design and data bases.
  • Good interpersonal skills
