Multimatic is comprised of three operating groups: Multimatic MechanismsMultimatic Structures & Suspension and Multimatic Engineering.

Through its European Technical Centre (MTCE), Multimatic is offering a student placement program for bright, enthusiastic engineers to be based in Thetford, Norfolk, for a period of up to one year.

The ideal candidates for these positions will be on track for a high-level BEng or MEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering or similar. The ideal candidates will need to demonstrate a passion and drive to become a world class engineer.

Mechanisms Engineer Placement

Job Title:  Student Design Engineer

Department:  Mechanisms

Duration:  10 – 12 Months


Scope of Position:

MTCE is currently seeking to recruit reliable and energetic placement students for our Mechanisms Design Department, to join the team delivering OEM and niche vehicle engineering solutions to production facilities within Multimatic.

As an undergraduate Design Engineer, you will join the team in supporting multiple groups, with exposure to a wide spectrum of projects across the business. You will have the opportunity to gain CAD experience with CATIA and NX, critique FEA results to optimise your designs and have exposure to processes such as DFMEA and 6 Sigma.


  • Testing 3 Weeks
  • Analysis 3 Weeks
  • Suspension Design 3 Weeks
  • Mechanisms Design 8 - 10 Months

Key Requirements:

  • Practical and theoretical problem solving skills
  • Some prior experience of CAD/3D Modelling would be desirable
  • Creative engineering, “Blue Sky” thinking
  • Strong ability to critique or prove out ideas using engineering tools
  • Ability to conduct engineering calculations using MS Office software and in-house tools
  • Excellent report writing and results interpretation skills, including presentations
  • Passionate about the automotive or motorsports industries
  • Driven to achieve world class results in a high tempo environment
  • Flexibility to work on a variety of tasks as and when required
  • Ability to work to all relevant company guidelines and procedures

All candidates must be willing to travel, if required, and should hold a current passport and Right to work in the UK. A driving licence would be highly advantageous.
