Continuous Improvement Manager
Location: Multimatic Indiana - Butler, Butler, Indiana, United States
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This individual is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and implementing Continuous Improvement projects within the plant. Applies lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma tools to deliver operational improvements and/or cost reduction benefits. Will assist and lead in training, organizing and coordinating Continuous Improvement activities, driving enabler savings, documentation of financials and project information. Provide plant leadership with guidance and support for next steps in the area of continuous improvement. Additional work in mentoring CI trained individuals at the plant will be required
Leads operational excellence activities. This position will engage, lead, train and mentor others within the organization to develop and implement best practices that will drive improvements and consistency at our manufacturing facilities.Key to success in this position is the ability to work within the organization at all levels and within all functions, creating value, buy-in, and driving change throughout the organization.Work will be carried out to maximize the efficiency of these facilities by performing the following duties personally or through others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Champions manufacturing continuous improvement activities through Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and other tools, and initiates efforts to reduce variability, waste, and cost of poor quality, resulting in improved customer satisfaction, business growth, and company profitability within each of the companys manufacturing facilities.
Possess expert knowledge and practical application of problem solving 8D, PDCA, and DMAIC tools and methodologies. Provides problem solving training and coaching to all levels of the organization.
Develops long range and annual continuous improvement plans in support of manufacturing objectives and initiatives.
Works in conjunction with Operation and Shop Managers to develop, maintain and communicate safety, quality, scheduling, productivity and training requirements within each shop.
Provides training, and serves as mentor and coach, in all areas of LSS methodologies to equip shop employees with Lean knowledge and improvement tools.
Initiates, coordinates and monitors facility improvements, modifications and changes as they relate to policy, procedure, throughput and flow of materials.
Identifies and trains internal leaders to lead manufacturing continuous improvement events and activities, and works in conjunction with these personnel to ensure process improvement initiatives are carried-out and sustained.
Project manages and participates in the development, implementation, and sustainability of specific LSS initiative assignments.
Develops, designs, and delivers training modules for each specific LSS initiative based on identified skill and knowledge level of employees.
Plans and leads shop employees in various improvement Kaizen events targeted towards a coordinated improvement of performance.
Reduces costs in manufacturing by eliminating waste, reducing variation, and streamlining key value streams and business processes.
Reviews manufacturing facilities for compliance with continuous improvement scorecards and creates action plans to achieve compliance.
Maintains effective working relationships and communicates on a regular basis with key shop individuals and other departments or customers as necessary.
Utilizes appropriate metrics to manage and track continuous improvement goals, progress and results.
Communicates to plant leadership on manufacturingperformance and continuous improvement activities. Models effective leadership behavior to others. Develops trust and commitment in others. Contributes to building cohesive and effective teams.
Drives towards meeting balanced scorecard metric targets including: safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost.
Partner with the Human Resource team to link individual performance with the achievement of organizational performance.
Provides technical guidance and mentorship to Lean Leaders and Black/Green Belts to drive project execution. Identifies and tracks all Operational Excellence improvement projects and cost savings.
Provides standard work guidance and support to all the levels of the organization to the organization, especially the shop floor.
Provides shop-floor and administrative areas Lean support. This includes expert knowledge and application of the TPS principles of Lean – 6S Workplace Organization, Value Stream Mapping, Error Proofing, Total Productive Maintenance, Kaizen, Kanban/Pull Systems, Set-Up Reduction and Standard Work.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE
- B.S. degree in Organizational Development, Process Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Practical lean experience and/or training with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, which includes a demonstrated ability to lead or manage process improvement projects utilizing the following concepts and techniques:
- Lean Manufacturing principles
- Six Sigma tools
- Visual factory / 5S programs
- Ability to lead large-scale, continuous improvement/organizational change initiatives.
- Strong facilitation skills, with experience in training development and deployment.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team environment
