Position Overview:

Multimatic Indiana - New Haven is seeking an Metallurgist Engineer, specifically a recent graduate candidate with a Metallurgy Engineering degree or a BS in Materials Science. The successful candidate will provide metallurgical expertise, perform specialized testing and process-support to all phases of operations on both regular and ad-hoc cycles basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of quality testing on a spectrum of materials. Testing may include the following aspects:
    • Mechanical - torque, tension, compression, adhesion, peel, fatigue, cut & polish for Macro etch analysis etc.
    • Environmental - corrosion, UV, thermal, humidity, chemical and cyclical testing etc.
    • Characterization - SEM (with EDS), XRF, Hardness, DSC, TGA and FTIR etc.
  • Support Quality and Engineering staff in root cause investigation and resolution.
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with established quality procedures in the performance and documentation of work.
  • Analyze data, prepare presentations & present data to internal support team(s) and/or customers.
  • Exhibit competence in the preparation of test samples and reports.
  • Learn and apply specific materials, automotive and quality standards such as SPC, ISO 9001, A2LA, IATF 16949.
  • May supervise Metallurgy Lab Technicians as required.
  • Support customer and other plant audits as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Detailed knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools and fixtures used in the testing of steel and specifically, knowledge of grain structure and the effects of heat-treated, welding processes of steel automotive components.

  • High level of proficiency using MS Office is required – Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Ability to independently summarize test data and create reports
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Working knowledge of the following:
  • ASTM,ISO and other testing methods
  • Characterization - SEM (with EDS), XRF, Hardness, DSC, TGA and FTIR etc.
  • Coatings - ALSI, ZN, Usibor etc.
  • Martensitic materials and various other micro structures

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Minimum
     of a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following related fields (related work experience will be considered):
  • Mechanical Engineering (
    minor in metallurgy)
  • Metallurgy
  • Materials Science
