Multimatic is a global enterprise supplying engineered components, systems and services to the automotive industry. Multimatic Indiana - New Haven is a relatively new facility in Fort Wayne, manufacturing specialized, high-strength steel structural components for automotive OEMs.

Position Overview:

Multimatic Indiana - New Haven is seeking a recent college graduate for an Entry Level - Manufacturing Engineer who is passionate about manufacturing with state-of-the-art technology and materials such as hot-forming presses, robotic lasers and welders for Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS). The successful candidate will play a lead role in performing manufacturing and equipment feasibility studies, and assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of equipment. He/she will also be required to estimate, quote, evaluate, specify and purchase (to budget) capital equipment and fixture tooling for new and existing programs, and to interact with, and direct, vendors supplying equipment and fixture tooling to Multimatic’s standards and performance expectations. They will then be involved in launching the equipment/assembly fixture tooling and supporting ongoing production using that manufacturing machinery.

Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Feasibility study, estimate, quote, evaluate, specify and purchase capital equipment and assembly fixture tooling for new programs or modifications to existing programs, to budget
  • Interact with, and direct, vendors to provide equipment and tooling to our standards and performance expectations
  • Launch equipment and assembly fixture tooling to production floor and support ongoing production throughout program cycle
  • Design and develop robust assembly fixtures that hold all required tolerances per customer specifications
  • Develop timelines and maintain through follow-up
  • Troubleshoot through root-cause analysis and provide technical support for daily plant operations
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and assist with quality documentation
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of GD &T and datum scheme
  • Investigate and implement cost reductions through process improvements
  • Responsible for producing CAD drawings when required
  • Work directly with skilled trades, program managers and quality engineers
  • Manage and execute actions from ECN/ECR system

Education and/or Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) is preferred
  • Technical degree with experience; very strong hands-on candidate with 1 or more years of experience
  • Experience in high-volume steel processing/manufacturing is a plus
  • Previous experience in the automotive field is a plus
  • Ability to solve problems through logical root-cause analysis. Experience/knowledge with problem solving tools (8D, A3, Kaizan, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • Knowledge of Solid Works CAD system is a plus
  • Ability to write instructions, plant operating procedures, and routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, regulatory agencies, and employees of the organization
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of physical science
