Mechatronics Development Technician

Position:

Multimatic Technical Centre (MTC), located in Markham, Ontario, is a division of Multimatic Inc. MTC has a comprehensive development team supporting Multimatic’s automotive manufacturing divisions while also providing contract engineering services to a variety of customers. The facility has design, analysis, testing, prototype, composites, and motorsports departments.

MTC is seeking a Mechatronics Development Technician who will perform highly skilled precision work in the development, construction, assembly, and testing of a wide variety of mechatronic components and assemblies. Translates concepts and ideas into working prototypes. Requires the use of considerable capability, inventiveness, mechanical ingenuity, and creative ability.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design of experimental mechanical and/or electromechanical assemblies
  • Work on complex and diverse assignments, operating CNC and conventional machine tools and hand tools to shape, fabricate, and install a wide variety of mechanical assemblies or electrical/electronic components
  • Recommend and work with a wide variety of materials including brass, aluminum, copper, tool steel, stainless steel, graphite, composites, and plastics, to tight tolerances
  • Fit and install precision components such as springs, balance mechanisms, gear-trains, and electronics into assemblies
  • Work from detailed drawings, verbal instructions or self-drawn informal designs
  • Maintain detailed documentation of steps taken to achieve results and provide feedback of lessons learned to project team
  • May informally instruct best shop practice and practical design to non-shop personnel
  • Perform related job duties as required

Requirements:

  • Technical school training beyond high school, or equivalent proven experience
  • Ten or more years of experience as an all-around machinist, including previous experience in precision fabrication and assembly
  • Demonstrated design capability, mechanical ingenuity, inventiveness, and problem-solving ability
