CNC Supervisor

Location: Multimatic Ride Dynamics, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada

Position Overview:

Multimatic Ride Dynamics  (MRD) is one of the newest of Multimatic’s North American divisions. Multimatic Ride Dynamics is looking for a CNC Supervisor  who will supervise and direct the activities of all CNC machining and CNC processes. Ensure that department targets, productivity, and quality levels are met.

Shift Hours: 8:00pm to 4:00am

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Delegate and supervise the day-to-day CNC production activities. • Coordinate and oversee general housekeeping for the CNC production area. • Responsible for the oversight of orientation and training of new employees. • Support hiring of CNC setup/operators/lead hands and their training as required. • Provide training on work instructions and any job-related procedures. • Monitor employee performance relative to the acceptance of responsibility, communication, problem solving ability, work habits, and safety behaviours.  • Issue disciplines as required (in conjunction with the department manager and human resources manager). • Ensure that all safety standards are met. Act upon observed unsafe working habits or safety hazards (i.e. corrective actions). • Complete timekeeping reports. • Ensure that the required department targets and productivity levels are met. • Maintain adherence to the established quality and scheduling standards. • Review the daily production schedules and instruct operators in the job set-up. • Ensure that the set-up verification and first and last part inspection has been reviewed and approved by the leadhands. • Ensure production operators inspect the product at each stage of operation as per the control plan. • Ensure inspections and tests are performed as per the part control plan and maintain inspection and test status. • Maintain product inspection and test status using the established labeling instructions. • Report and review the performance of the shift’s production. Ensure that all counts are accurate and complete. Monitor the up time and down time. • Alert the production- and operations manager of all quality and safety issues. • Identify non-conformances. Stop production if necessary; purge and contain all suspect material internally, externally, and any product that is in transit.. • In the event of receiving a customer concern, issues a customer and/or concern report. Include the operations, production, and quality managers in the distribution. • Assist in the planning and execution of department objectives and targets.

•Implement effective TPM program for CNC and CNC supporting equipment in corporation with the operations manager. • Develop/write/edit CNC programs as required. • Accommodate and create programs for port tube changes in the characterization period of a damper on short notice. • Track consumable tooling costs, change over times, scrap, and production productivity. • Develop and co-ordinate plant and equipment layout improvements, process improvements, tool changes, and first off improvements. • Co-ordinate the proper timing of ECNs to minimize obsolete stock and ensure production at the required engineering level. • Review all CNC machining related work instructions and ensure the readiness of manufacturing equipment, packaging requirements, and completion of all CNC manufacturing engineering tasks. • Maintain a daily presence on the production floor. Provide engineering support to CNC manufacturing in the areas of ergonomic evaluations, method improvements, the procurement and fabrication of equipment, and safety. • Research, investigate, and report CNC manufacturing concerns for improvement of overall CNC productivity. This includes process cost reductions and implementation of corrective actions to minimize process downtimes and rejects. • Support APQP activities by evaluating blueprints and recommending machining processes. • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Department Manager. Education and Experience:

• Completion of a college diploma or university degree in an engineering discipline. Mechanical engineering is preferred. • Minimum of five years’ experience in a related field or discipline. • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems. • Knowledge of government legislation relative to health and safety (i.e. OHSA, WHMIS). • Training in CNC machining methods and practices, first aid, forklift safety and operation. • Supervisory skills in the areas of health and safety, hiring, orientation, performance reviews, and disciplinary measures. • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; must be self-motivated. • Ability to coach, counsel, discipline, and motivate. • Good Technical Report writing abilities. • Proficient in Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and C.A.D. • Excellent problem-solving techniques and methods. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
