Controls Engineer

Position Overview:

Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions is looking for a Controls Engineer who will be responsible for increasing company profitability and improving employee working conditions by studying, recommending, and implementing changes to new and existing manufacturing processes. Candidates must be willing to work on the Night Shift

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement PLC based controls systems for industrial equipment.
  • Configure PLC hardware and programs (ladder, structured text, function blocks).
  • Develop PLC Code.
  • Assist in the development of equipment motor and device lists.
  • Understand safety risk assessments and design.
  • Assist design engineers with electrical drive and PLC panel design.
  • Develop and maintain HMI architecture.
  • Install HMI hardware and software.
  • Set up I/O Drivers.
  • Develop databases and screens.
  • Participate in field commissioning and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Assist with equipment breakdowns.
  • Train engineers, robotic technicians and tradespeople on controls.
  • Review changes made on asset manager to ensure that there are no risks to safety, quality or production.
  • Co-ordinate the proper timing of ECN's to minimize obsolete stock and ensure production at the required engineering level.
  • Develop and co-ordinate plant and equipment layout improvements, process improvements, die changes, and first off improvements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard costs for all products.
  • Co-ordinate the introduction of new products to the company and assist in selecting appropriate suppliers for subcontracted operations.
  • Research and pursue opportunities for improvement in the operation to increase organization competitiveness.
  • Participate in the engineering change process by designing and updating Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses as needed.
  • Maintain up to date documentation of all assembly equipment, this includes issuing work orders and documenting all changes and repairs through MVP.
  • Make recommendations for Preventative Maintenance plans.
  • Review operator instructions and ensure the readiness of assembly equipment, packaging requirements, and completion of all manufacturing engineering tasks. 
  • Maintain a daily presence on the production floor. Provide engineering support to assembly in the areas of ergonomic evaluations, methods improvement, the procurement and fabrication of equipment, and safety.
  • Research, investigate, and report manufacturing concerns for improvement of overall plant productivity. This includes process cost reductions and implementation of corrective actions to minimize process downtimes and rejects.
  • Complete additional projects as assigned.
  • Develop critical spare parts inventory for the assembly equipment.

Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a related field or discipline.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Good technical report writing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and C.A.D.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
