Multimatic is a global automotive company providing hardware and engineering services to OEMs around the world.  Its newly formed Cambridge (UK) based electronics division, Multimatic Electronic Systems (MES), will meet the growing needs of our automotive customers in electronics hardware and software control.  Combining our new products with Multimatic’s existing expertise in suspension systems, vehicle dynamics, mechanisms and mechatronics will enable us to go to market with complete active suspension, active aero and powered door products to our customers in the future.

We are seeking a Production Engineer to join our team and support development of a growing range of control products for the automotive industry. The successful candidate will be joining Multimatic Electronic Systems at a very exciting time as the division embarks on multiple projects, bringing innovation and new products to the market.  Our Production Engineer will take on the responsibility of dealing directly with local and overseas OEMs, taking the lead on turning designs into physical hardware. We need someone who will embrace our culture – finding ways to say “yes” and delivering excellent solutions for our customers.

The role will also involve international travel to Multimatic production locations and supplier production locations to support production and quality activities.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Act as an interface between engineering and production on manufacturing technical, quality and process topics at both the system and vehicle level
  • Identify manufacturing needs for new products in development
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes at suppliers by applying knowledge of product design, manufacture, assembly, tooling, and materials
  • Support the design of production test equipment such as End of Line
  • Support the engineering team with the definition of any testing which may be required
  • Support production related documentation, such as working instructions, FMEAs
  • Report on a technical level and contribute to the open issues list on manufacturing issues to ensure corrective actions are completed in a timely manner
  • Support continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities
  • Work closely with the project and engineering teams to support them in ensuring customer deliverables are achieved
  • Represent Multimatic on manufacturing topics in front of customers and build relationships with customers
  • Support APQP gate reviews
  • Support preparation and delivery of PPAP documentation to customers

Skills and experience

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and logical approach
  • Minimum 5 years working in an electronics production environment, preferably within the automotive sector
  • Experience of schematics and BOMs
  • Excellent understanding of vehicle architecture
  • Experience working with electrical/electronic systems
  • Working experience of IATF 16949 and production activities such as PFMEA, Poka Yoke, 8D/A3 problem solving
  • A history of being able to complete tasks with minimal guidance and work under pressure to meet deadlines
