Multimatic Technical Centre Europe (MTCE) provides engineering and product development services to F1, Formula E, IMSA/WEC, DTM and many more race teams and Automotive OEM’s around the world. It is Multimatic' s Centre of Excellence for the ongoing design, development and implementation of DSSV® Damping Technology, and has established a strong continuing relationship with numerous champion ship winning Motorsports teams.

MTCE is also a leading contract engineering and vehicle development resource to major automotive OEMs and a growing number of niche vehicle manufacturers, engineering dampers, control arms, and entire vehicle suspension systems.

We are looking to hire a Test Department Manager to join our busy and exciting Test department here at MTCE.

Facility address: Unit 1, Wyatt Way, Thetford, IP24 1HB.

The Test Department Manager will be responsible for developing the test department team, providing direct supervision and work prioritisation for department personnel, ensuring the technical output of the department meets all internal and external customer requirements, and that the department has capability to meet those requirements. The Test Department Manager will also provide support to program managers and engineering department managers for project estimation, including identifying gaps in equipment and capability and ensuring the department has appropriate skills, expertise, and assets to deliver what is needed. Additionally, the Test Department Manager will be responsible for supporting organizational business planning, including working with senior management to develop capital spending plans and operational budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works to maintain employee work schedules including assignments, balanced workload, documented training, vacations and time off, cover for absenteeism, and possible overtime scheduling.
  • Develop and implement guidelines to ensure tasks stay on schedule and both internal and external customer communication is timely and accurate.
  • Monitor and maintain balanced workload ensuring tasks are met per the allotted time frame meeting internal and external customer requirements.
  • Proactive management within assigned areas pertaining to resource and capital equipment needs, training requirements, and process improvements.
  • Recognise and understand the customer’s needs, make suggestions for possible solutions, and work with Programme Managers and the Commercial Manager to quickly develop cost estimates.
  • Ensure team and individual goals are reviewed and discussed on a regular cadence.
  • Work together with team and others areas of the organization to accomplish team and individual goals.
  • Build and support cross functional team development.
  • Responsible for the professional development of each individual in the department. This includes but is not limited to performance management, succession planning, compensation planning, and strategic resource forecasting.
  • Responsible for training and development initiatives within the Test Department including the coordination and execution of personal development plans and associated training/development assignments.
  • Assist in the recruitment of staff, conduct reviews, and carry out disciplinary action if necessary.
  • Maintains working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and ethical business practices, and all company policies.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant General Manager or General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  1.  3 years management experience in an automotive related field
  2. Engineering Degree to a minimum BEng level, or equivalent
  3. Must possess good social and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Must have understanding of testing, manufacturing, and logistics processes.
  5. Experience with operating and maintaining servo-hydraulic test frames.
  6. Ability to teach technical concepts.
  7. Have high level of applicable component and sub-system product knowledge.
  8. Capable of organising and managing priorities, business equipment, and problem solving techniques.
  9. Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural organisation and provide direction and leadership.
  10. Ability to read, write and speak English.
  11. Hold a current passport and be able to travel as and when required.
