Assistant Controller

Scope of Position:

Assist Controller and General Manager in increasing company profitability by studying and improving the systems which track and report financial data, and by creating, studying and improving the systems that drive, interpret and analyse management information systems. This is a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide meaningful financial analysis to Controller/General Manager for effective decision making
  • Assist in the development of effective processes and procedures within Finance and Administration
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements
  • Review monthly departmental financial results with department managers and General Manager
  • Ensure all group and corporate financial reporting requirements are achieved
  • Establish and maintain internal controls
  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and year-end analysis
  • Coordinate and assist with the budget process
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Analyze and report on cost variances
  • Serve as a liaison to external auditors
  • Support and encourage KAIZEN principles, concepts and activities,
  • Encourage GEAR activities from staff to meet corporate goals,
  • Perform other duties as required (i.e. special projects).
  • Coordinate with and prepare reports for Controller and upper management.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • CPA (CA, CMA or CGA)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting and financial processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Solid understanding of applicable regulations
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
