SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall quality, safety and efficient operation of the processes within their work area.   Has a working knowledge of all of the equipment within their assigned area with the ability to train others on that equipment.  Acts as a leader in their area to help develop operator’s job knowledge and uses continuous improvement to reach established objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Understand and perform the supervisor’s responsibilities in their absence.
  • Responsible for following all established company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Coordinate safety improvement projects and participate in injury 5-why corrective actions.
  • Determine tools needed for production to be successful and acquire them.
  • Assure PPE cabinet is maintained with appropriate levels of inventory and that the supervisor is notified of any potential shortages.
  • Assure production boards in their assigned area are reviewed and initialed on an hourly basis.
  • Responsible for daily 5-S audits in their assigned areas and for follow up to resolve issues found during the audit.
  • Utilize customer forecasts to perform daily production scheduling and assure schedule attainment.
  • Lead and direct production associates in their assigned areas on a daily basis.
  • Manage hold areas and assure timely disposition of product.
  • Lead meetings with production associates to discuss established objectives and how to make improvements in these areas.
  • Review OEE information on a daily basis and assure accuracy in the raw data.
  • Assure all new quality or process changes are communicated to production and assure proper training is provided if needed.
  • Assure all production associates are properly trained on the equipment they operate and that there is documentation to support that training via the training effectiveness evaluation.
  • Maintain the training matrix boards and assure their accuracy.
  • Provide thorough and clear communication to your supervisor, following shift and technical services regarding any problems concerning production.
  • Complete shift notes on a daily basis for the work centers assigned to them.
  • Work with supervisor to evaluate operator performance issues on the floor regarding safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Understand M2K and C2K issues and maintain accurate inventory via cycle counts and inventory adjustments.
  • Lead and participate in corrective action or continuous improvement activities.
  • Create and/or assist with work instructions for new and existing processes and maintain their accuracy.
  • Be available to attend future training as deemed necessary for this position.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently perform all assignments.
  • The ability to effectively train future individuals given this position.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the supervisor or designee.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).    One year or more automotive manufacturing experience.  Prior leadership and/or technical experience would benefit this individual.  Must be able to perform and understand all job functions of a production operator.
