Multimatic Inc. is a privately held Canadian corporation headquartered in Markham, Ontario, supplying components, systems, and services to the global automotive industry.  Multimatic's core competencies lie in the manufacture of stampings, welded assemblies, mechanisms, and suspension components, as well as the design and development of automotive body/chassis systems. 

This position is responsible for leadership of all aspects of Multimatic Mechanisms Group supply chain, including NPI, Commodity, and MRO purchasing as well as logistics and materials management oversight. This role further drives supply chain continuous improvement through the implementation of systemic tools and processes that mitigate supply chain risk for Multimatic.  

Key Responsibilities : 

  • Global Purchasing & Supply Chain Leadership
    • Lead the strategic development of Multimatic Mechanisms’ global supply chain
    • Develop and refine systems to increase departmental efficiency for RFQ, Strategic Sourcing, Spend Data Management, and Supplier Performance Metrics.
    • Responsible for maintaining all records pertaining to purchasing performance activities. Establish systems that are shared and accessible/visible to all.
    • Source, develop and maintain quality and financially approved global suppliers who will provide on-time production exceeding quality, cost, and technology targets.
    • Focus on identifying suppliers with which to build strong long-term relationships.
    • Support program milestone reviews, track open issues and report purchasing status.
    • Present purchasing team KPIs and strategy in monthly executive meetings.
    • Responsible for managing, developing and maintaining a motivated team who are engaged and can support the business objectives.
    • Provide excellent leadership, guidance, performance objectives, feedback and annual appraisals to the team on a continued basis.
    • Create a culture of fair challenge and teamwork ensuring that employee satisfaction is maintained. Establish stretch objectives measured by regular KPI reviews.
    • Visit suppliers as required to understand cost, quality, efficiency and overall supplier performance and capability.
  • Commodity Management
    • Guide global Commodity team to achieve BU product cost and strategic objectives.
    • Support development of the global commodity strategy to achieve material costs savings targets through detailed analysis of the current spend, including global consolidation and/or localization opportunities.
    • Ensure strategy execution through collaboration with division Materials / AQP teams.
    • Negotiate global supply agreements with including LTAs, rebates, etc.
    • Establish market intelligence for should-cost analysis to enable strategy.
    • Work closely with Supplier Development and the Divisions to monitor and report on-going supplier performance and compliance.
  • New Project Introduction (NPI) - Purchasing
    • Support global NPI purchasing team to achieve on-time quotes for new business opportunities and ensure project purchasing deliverables through to successful launch
    • Review program cost targets with cross-functional team to identify opportunities and appropriate sourcing strategy (region / technology / cost)
    • Monitor RFQ on-time performance and ensure appropriate resource allocation
    • Represent Purchasing in Mechanisms Quote Reviews and AQP team meetings
    • Follow Q2A through program to verify on-going compliance / target achievement for piece price, tooling, and alignment to customer LTA
    • Work closely with SDE to achieve launch objectives and identify/mitigate risks
    • Verify material planning parameters with Materials team for transition to launch
    • Oversee implementation of supplier changes (re-sourcing, VA/VE, etc.) w/ AQP
    • Support long term program profitability by reviewing opportunities to increase finished good margin by reducing purchased part cost over program life
  • Logistics Planning & Trade Compliance
    • Review and plan Multimatic global supply chain to optimize transportation and logistics for purchased part and/or intercompany supply as well as finished good, as needed
    • Understand latest trade regulations in the areas Multimatic operates, in particular those related to tariffs and the classification of goods (ie. USMCA, Brexit, etc.)
  • Supply Chain Risk Mitigation
    • Monitor supply chain developments and establish market intelligence to stay ahead of potential risks to Multimatic supply
    • Develop and implement contingency plans to support the divisions and minimize risk of supply impact or disruption
    • Define appropriate balance for dual-sourcing strategies on critical product lines
  • Global MRO
    • Oversight of global MRO spend and roadmap to annual savings plan
    • Review strategic plan for MRO to ensure the correct partners in each region
  • Divisional Materials Support
    • Provide strategic guidance to division Materials teams with inventory planning, transportation, and logistics
    • Support the development of robust systems for Materials transition to production
    • Identify enhancements to material planning parameters, dual-sourcing volume splits, supply routes, etc. to best support Multimatic divisional needs
  • General Requirements
    • Work in a safe manner at all times.
    • Adopt and practice Kaizen Lean Manufacturing Principles and Concepts to drive continuous improvement of the purchasing function.
    • Follow all general procedures where applicable as indicated in the General Procedures section of the Level III procedure manual.
    • Follow all Departmental General Procedures as well as process maps for this position.
    • Work in compliance and conform to IATF16949 and ISO14001 standards.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements :

  • Must have an Engineering Degree and/or Purchasing Certification
  • Experience in strategic supply chain management, purchasing/procurement preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively building positive relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills that would involve internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to extract, understand and analyze financial data.
  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and Bill of Material (BOM)
  • A good understanding of manufacturing processes, such as stamping, forging, molding, machining, electronics, etc.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and agreements.
  • Multi-tasker who can respond to challenges in a timely manner.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Suite, MRP systems) and willing to learn new tools and systems to improve performance.
