Scope of Position:

Responsible for directing and coordinating warranty analysis activities to ensure compliance with customer warranty programs. Negotiate warranty agreements with customers and suppliers. Review and verify warranty cost charges from customers to assign the proper credits. Assess warranty as related to sub-supplier components and systems and according charge backs. Provide feedback on design and process about potential failure modes impacting warranty and product performance.

 

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain and enhance warranty process and supporting systems to monitor customer warranty databases and identify spikes in warranty claims.
  • Implement the process to investigate warranty spikes through analysis of customer warranty claim information, review of technician narratives, dealer calls, and statistical analysis, to determine root cause of warranty claims.
  • Lead the warranty part return process and request warranty part returns from customers when analysis of data does not identify root cause of warranty claims.
  • Enhance the process for review of warranty return parts with program management, sales and engineering. Verify that returned parts meet original specifications and expected performance based on usage or mileage (expected and reasonable wear).
  • Develop and conduct recreation testing to replicate field issue. Use replication testing methods to confirm proposed solutions. Work with engineering to review DFMEA to incorporate test methods to improve reliability based on warranty recreation test methods.
  • Use problem solving methods such as Fishbone Diagrams, Red X, Taguchi, and 5 Why when issues cannot be identified by standard quality part analysis methods.
  • Maintain and enhance the warranty database to store warranty analysis, part return, corrective action, and supplier cost recovery data.
  • Develop and deliver training for APQP, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Sales on new Customer and MDS warranty systems and subsequent changes and updates to the systems.
  • Negotiate warranty recovery with suppliers and customers.
  • Review and resolve customer warranty concerns and charge backs.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customer warranty systems and databases to acquire failure information.
  • Lead activities to fulfil customer warranty agreement obligations.
  • Chair internal monthly warranty meetings with personnel from engineering, manufacturing, sales, and management.
  • Create and monitor warranty rate and cost charts to detect early failures and to estimate warranty cost exposure.
  • Provide input for warranty contracts and cost share negotiations.
  • Provide input to product engineering for new program quotes, test procedures, and material cost reduction efforts.
  • Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Act as a coach, creating energized and motivated teams.
  • Visit OEM’s and/or dealerships to identify component early life failures or trends and foster robust working relationships.
  • Follow all departmental and general procedures where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Department Manager.
  • Abide by all company safety rules, responsibilities, policies, and procedures including the legislative requirements of the OHSA.
  • Work in compliance and conform to the Environment and ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 standards.
  • Adopt and practice Kaizen principles; participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities.

Qualifications /Skills required :

  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier setting.
  • Knowledge of chassis systems and suspensions and components.
  • Knowledge of metrology, statistical analysis tools, and test methods.
  • Experience in interfacing with online customer warranty systems and databases.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis tools.
  • Experience with IATF 16949 systems.
  • Experience in a machine shop/test lab setting.
  • Strong awareness of product liability.
  • Skilled in problem solving tools include 5-Why, 8D, DOE, and fishbone.
  • Ability to write technical engineering procedures and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong planning, organization, and data management skills.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, to take initiative, to work independently of day-to-day supervision, and to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Experience with Minitab and Weibull analysis is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of suspension designs is an asset.
  • Green or black belt is an asset.
