Materials Manager

Location: Multimatic C-Mech, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada

Multimatic C-Mech is seeking a Materials Manager to lead, monitor and manage all activities of the Materials and Logistics functions to ensure that inventory levels are maintained to fully support production requirements. This position will report directly to the General Manager of the facility and will work closely with the Operations team to fulfil the needs of the business.

Scope of Position

This position is responsible for the material management function relating to the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of material to meet company objectives and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Lead the Materials team by acquiring all necessary production components and establishing optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying cost and premium transportation charges
  • Interpret and monitor overall procedures, methods, projects, policies, and programs designed to improve MRP control efficiency and company profitability
  • Assists in launches of new product and equipment
  • Attend and provide expert advice to the Management team of any potential issues, concerns and opportunities for improvement
  • Supervise, monitor and manage all material movement and storage of goods through SAP
  • Constantly monitor industry pricing and product cost in order to maintain the best possible overall profitability for the company
  • Assist in sourcing of all materials, components, outside processes, and contracts
  • Follow up on correspondence with Multimatic C-Mech’s customers and suppliers either verbally and/or in writing as required
  • Keep informed on the latest changes to Customs Procedures including NAFTA and its reporting.
  • Establishes procedures and supervises physical inventories
  • Ensures proper contact with customers relating to releases and deliveries
  • Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery
  • Oversees the purchasing and/or contracting for materials, supplies, equipment and services for the operation of the Company.
  • Develops, establishes, and provides for the maintenance of ordering and reporting systems that relate to the materials functions including MRP
  • Responsible for customer returnable rack program while maintaining adequate control on rack inventory to ensure that the appropriate racks are available for production support
  • Establishes and maintains inventory procedures and work instructions, ensuring that QS/TS guidelines are being met.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of Materials Management experience in automotive environment with OEM(s), Tier 1 & Tier 2.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP and related MRP/ERP systems.
  • Must have strong leadership, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with internal and external customers.
  • Work in compliance with TS16949 Standards and ISO 14001 as well as Lean Manufacturing and 5S concepts awareness and adherence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
