Boring Mill Operator

Scope of Position:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and use machine shop CNC Boring Mill equipment for manufacturing all machine components.
  • Perform material preparation, use of machine shop equipment, finishing of details, and all other tasks related to the manufacturing of all machine components
  • Study machining instructions, work orders, and drawings to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequence of operations, set-ups and tooling requirements.
  • Set-up and operate boring mill by reading and interpreting CAD data, setting up and securing work pieces and tooling, verifying machine systems and tool sequence, setting cutting tools, programming to CAD data, machining work piece, checking finished work pieces, de-burring and prepping for assembly
  • Work safely at all times and maintain a safe work area.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Be responsible for all parameters of assigned tasks
  • Ensure the shop environment is kept safe, clean and organized to enable timely and safe manufacturing techniques
  • Review project direction with Project Leader
  • Keep supervisor informed of all program issues
  • Assign tasks to co-workers as per direction of supervisor
  • Provide training, guidance and assistance to co-workers as required
  • Ensure adequate communication with other program team members
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and ensure they are completed on time
  • Follow all documented quality procedures
  • Observe all company safety rules, polices and procedures
  • Attend all required training courses
  • Document/present information obtained from conferences and training courses as required
  • Participate in MTC’s continuous improvement activities
  • Foster good employee relations
  • Perform all other duties as determined by the General Manager or his designate

 Key Relationships:

Prototype Manager             - communicate all project and personnel issues
                                            - attend meetings to receive new or ongoing project direction
                                            - review prototype employee performance
Lead Hand                         - provides project drawings and materials
                                           - relay information concerning project timing, quality and design concerns
Tool & Die Maker                - performs assigned tasks
Quality Assurance Technician- review critical characteristics
                                                 - verifies quality of product
Quality Systems Leader            - provides information on quality systems requirements
                                                  - assists with changes to MTC’s quality systems documents

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1-2 year experience in CNC Boring Mill and in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Thorough understanding of G-Code
  • Excellent machining skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard Windows applications
  • Successful completion of Lift Truck Safety Course and Crane Operation and Safety Training
  • Must be familiar with MTC’s Quality System procedures
  • Mastercam experience is a must
