We are seeking candidates for a Legal Counsel position to provide legal services and support to our global operations, both at the operating group and manufacturing facility levels.  Primarily located at our corporate offices in Markham, Ontario, Multimatic’s Legal Counsel may also be asked to spend time at our operating groups and manufacturing facilities, providing legal counsel and advice on a variety of legal issues (subject to restrictions arising from COVID-19).

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel, this new position will provide a full range of general corporate and commercial law advice and services to senior management and employees across Multimatic.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and business agreements with customers, suppliers and business partners
  • providing general legal support on commercial matters and projects relating to operations, services and our products
  • delivering strategic counsel on a wide range of employment matters, including contracts, terminations and occupational health and safety issues
  • leading litigation management, including liaising between internal personnel and  external counsel
  • providing counsel to group management on day-to-day business issues and in ‘emergency’ scenarios, including communication plans
  • assisting with governance, compliance and corporate integrity initiatives
  • contributing to the establishment of a sustainable and fully-functional legal department

Key qualifications

  • Lawyer in good standing and qualified to practice law in Ontario
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience (corporate/commercial) in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages would be an asset
  • Knowledge of US, European and/or Asian legal issues is preferred but not required
  • Experience within the automotive industry or other manufacturing sector is preferred but not required     
  • Exceptional analytical and drafting skills, with appropriate attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and good business instincts
  • Team player in a decentralized operating environment, where a service-driven attitude/approach and accountability are valued
  • Good interpersonal skills
