Production Manager

Definition:

If you are a talented leader and an expert when it comes to low volume automotive manufacturing, we are looking for you to join our management team as a Production Manager. You will never have a boring day as you oversee all aspects of production, from creating build schedules and managing resource requirements to working with Manufacturing Engineering to launch new vehicles into production. You’ll have the opportunity to use and enhance your excellent communication skills, extensive knowledge of the manufacturing industry and ability to make quick decisions based on your keen observation and analysis abilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership of the niche vehicle manufacturing facility, including Body Assembly, Paint Shop and Stores.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing teams to ensure products are delivered on time and to the highest quality level
  • Work with the Programme Management team to develop schedules for future programmes
  • Work with the Quality team to collaboratively achieve customer standards, and make sure products are delivered for buy-off when required
  • Monitor key production metrics, and regularly feed these out to the wider team and to senior management
  • Manage current and future resource requirements to ensure labour requirements are met as efficiently as possible, including management of shift patterns
  • Plan basic production hours and overtime requirements and ensure standard workload and peaks can be contained
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to plan new vehicle builds and identify requirements for any new tooling or equipment
  • Liaise with the Facilities team to ensure all production equipment is fully maintained and any downtime is minimized
  • Develop and manage tracking systems for analysing production rates and product quality and identifying production issues before they arise
  • Work with the Programme Management and Purchasing teams to manage the inventory and consumables requirements to ensure we always have the supply needed to complete production quotas quickly and efficiently
  • Fulfill administrative duties, including completing production reports, time sheets and conducting ongoing personal development reviews
  • Present production information to senior management, including suggestions for potential improvement and strategies for implementing these suggestions
  • Contribute to the hiring process, making recommendations for which candidates are the most capable
  • Maintain a Skills Matrix for the manufacturing teams to ensure our current and future skills requirements can be met
  • Ensure all employees follow Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure production facility cleanliness standards are maintained at all times
  • Provide motivation, support and guidance to all employees
  • Act as the driving force behind Multimatic Niche Vehicles manufacturing


Skills:

  • Detailed understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes including bonding, welding, machining, fabrication and general automotive/BIW assembly
  • Understanding of paint processes and products
  • Knowledge of measurement techniques, metrology, inspection methods and equipment
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to interpret 3D CAD models and drawings
  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices
  • Strong IT skills and ability to present data effectively
  • Understanding of cost and financial impact.

Experience Levels:

  • Substantial experience in a low volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
  • 5 years’ experience as a Production Manager or in a similar manufacturing leadership role
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
