Position Overview:

Multimatic New Haven is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will focus on Trumpf Lasers to provide well-designed equipment, tools and fixtures for current & future programs including the procurement of production tools and support the quotation process. Primary focus will be providing support with metal cutting using current state-of-the-art technology on multiple Trumpf Laser work centers.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES       

  • Provide technical support for Trumpf Lasers including, but not limited to, troubleshooting and programming as necessary
  • Provide input and direction in the sourcing, design, construction, PPAP and Launch of new assembly tools, fixtures and equipment for current & future programs
  • Assist and/or provide guidance to other plant department personnel for solving problems arising from production processes, tool tryouts and launching of new programs associated with assembly tools, fixtures & equipment
  • Estimate, schedule and execute all engineering changes of tooling, cost savings, etc. Coordinate these changes with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance departments to ensure timely try-out and phase-in periods to meet production schedule requirements or customer delivery dates
  • Provide technical support for product development and design
  • Use technology on current and new processes and tooling to meet or exceed customer specifications
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Engineering Manager and/or Assistant General Manager
  • Stay informed of latest technologies with respect to assembly tooling, fixtures & other equipment developments
  • Establish new and superior sourcing methods for new assembly tooling, fixtures and related equipment which will ensure capability, repeatability and improve cost effectiveness of tools for the program (prototype and/or production)
  • Assist Program Managers as needed to prepare internal quotes for new/existing programs and all engineering changes by issuing, coordinating and proposing assembly tooling and gauge suppliers
  • Work with production & maintenance to implement Poka-Yoke safeguards
  • Work with Quality Engineering and others to establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC
  • Work in compliance with IATF-16949 Standards
  • Will work in compliance with all legislative requirements of the OHSA and will be accountable for specific Health and Safety responsibilities, as outlined under “Safety and Environmental Responsibilities, Office and Production Associates
  • Adherence to Escalation Process when quality issues arise and/or non-conformance to process(s) are discovered; stop further processing and inform responsible area supervisor or manager
  • Maintain due diligence in regard to environmental matters, minimize any potentially harmful accidents and work in compliance with ISO 14001; strict adherence to environmental guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proficient using CAD/CAM
  • Proficient using 3D CAD-Solid Works or similar technology
  • 2 - 5 years’ experience with design, developing assembly fixtures & tooling (preferred but, not necessary)
  • Prior experience with CNC programming
  • TruTops software experience (preferred)
  • Experience working with Trumpf Lasers in metal cutting applications (preferred)
  • Strong negotiating skills

Other Experience:

  • Ability to interact with all levels of associates in the organization, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills in the area of Excel spreadsheets, Word processing, design and data bases
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Travel Requirements – as needed (minimal)
