Buyer / Purchaser - Automotive

Multimatic Technical Centre (MTC), located in Markham, Ontario is a division of Multimatic Inc. MTC has a comprehensive development team supporting Multimatic’s manufacturing divisions while also providing contracted engineering services to a variety of customers. The facility has design, analysis, testing, prototype, composites, and motorsports departments.

MTC is seeking to recruit a Buyer/Purchaser - Automotive to manage day-to-day purchasing activities and utilize buying power to maintain quality at the most optimized cost. The responsibilities of the Buyer will involve purchasing of a variety of electrical and mechanical automotive components and systems for production. The Buyer will be responsible to maintain supplier relationships, negotiate, source locally/globally, plan and forecast inventory levels. The successful candidate will be required to manage purchase orders, requisitions and work cross-functionally with engineering, SQA and other business activities to identify cost-saving opportunities. In order to qualify for this opportunity, the candidate must have proven experience in the automotive OEM industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and purchase finished automotive components and systems
  • Build and maintain supply base while focusing on supplier development
  • Conduct component count in warehouse and manufacturing shop floor
  • Reconcile balance of components and make necessary adjustments
  • Perform root-cause analysis and make recommendations for changes to eliminate error causes (e.g. BOM, reporting issues, shortage of material etc.)
  • Analyze MRP data and make recommendations to purchase material in a 'just in time' environment
  • Make recommendations for improving supply chain (e.g. fix lead time and recalculate levels etc.)
  • Develop suggestions and provide recommendations for improving total inventory turnover
  • Develop and analyze Key Performance Indicators on a monthly basis to determine where continuous improvements can be achieved
  • Work in conjunction with SQA to approve qualified suppliers
  • Work in conjunction with material control to ensure proper stocking level requirements

Education & Experience Requirement:
The ideal candidate for this role must have 3-5 years’ experience in purchasing electrical and mechanical automotive components and systems. Experience in the automotive industry is mandatory, including a basic knowledge of complete vehicle systems. Must have experience in managing purchase orders, requisitions, and strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are key for this role. Must have the ability to take ownership and manage the purchasing process from end to end. This role requires a strategic and analytical mindset towards purchasing.
