MTC houses key engineering, fabrication, testing and development capabilities under one roof, enabling rapid turnaround and tight integration between departments (vehicle systems engineering, product engineering, predictive methods, mechatronics, product testing and validation, composites, fabrication and prototyping). Additional specialized services utilize MTC’s full-vehicle, multi-post shaker rig and a proprietary vehicle dynamics simulator. These services are further enhanced by the capabilities of a fully equipped motorsports department.

Position Overview:

Multimatic Technical Centre is seeking to recruit an Electronics Technologist who will be working for the mechatronics group and building and troubleshooting electrical related systems to support mechatronic automotive components such as powered closure systems, adaptive/active suspension systems, and powered aerodynamic devices.

Scope of Position:

  • Supporting the development of electronics hardware that controls electro-mechanical automotive components, such as automotive powered closure systems, adaptive/active suspension systems, powered aerodynamic devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build electronic hardware for prototype and production systems, based on specifications provided by Mechatronics Engineer
  • More specifically assemble electronic hardware and subsystems based on provided designs for mechatronic demos to meet the expectations and requirements of customers including but not limited to:
    • Assembling control modules or control panels used in development and demonstrations of power control systems
    • Understanding and implementing schematic drawings provided by engineers
    • Ability to create schematics from either existing systems or verbal instructions from engineers
  • Establishment, concurrence, documentation and maintenance of schematics/diagrams for projects
  • Assist in the development of project plans including timing and deliverables
  • Adhere to version control, requirements and change tracking
  • Be part of the development of Multimatic engineering tools and development systems for electronic components
  • Work closely with other disciplines, such as outside suppliers and mechanical engineers, to achieve the project requirements
  • Stay up to date on the latest hardware design techniques, electronic chip technology and general industry trends

Basic Requirements:

  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, or B.Tech in Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Electronics Hardware development including:
    • Knowledge of electrical standards and terminology
    • Implementation of design schematics
    • Electrical design specifications/limitations
    • Familiarity with microprocessor signals (high-speed busses, oscillators, USB, etc.), serial communications protocols and ARM architecture
    • Power supply / analog circuit design
    • PCB layout of multi-layer, compact HDI PCB designs which includes high speed digital interfaces (USB, MIPI, PCIe, DDR, etc.), RF signals, analog and power supply circuits.
    • Component database administration including creation of schematic symbol, PCB footprints, and 3D models.
    • Working with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers on implementing the PCB layout design rules and requirements
    • Understanding of power electronics, DC and AC motors, motor controllers, power conversion, power storage, signal conditioning and digital communication
  • Experience with application level software development
  • Understanding of embedded systems using:
    • C/C++, Embedded C(++)
    • Assembly level programming
  • Experience with computer-aided design and analysis tools such as:
    • Labview, EAGLE, KeyCreator
  • Must have good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must have strong English communication skills both written and oral
  • Must be detail oriented and be obsessed with quality work
  • Must be capable of coming up to speed on new projects very quickly
  • Must be able to correctly follow instructions/schematics while identifying potential issues
  • Ability to perform precision soldering of SMD components using solder station
  • Experience building/assembling control panels and associated harnesses
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment on hardware development projects with colleagues based in North America.
  • Ability to travel to the US and UK.
  • Ability to meet schedule commitments on-time and error-free with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of state of the art micro controllers such as PPC and MPC platforms ARM Core or TI DSP
  • Experience with automotive and industrial control and electro-mechanical systems, data acquisition techniques/equipment, including associated transducers and instrumentation
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle instrumentation
  • Exposure to electronic system testing procedures and tools
  • Exposure to vehicle telematics and infotainment
  • Overall knowledge of the automotive and related electronics industries
