Program Manager - Automotive Product Development

MTC has a comprehensive development team supporting Multimatic’s manufacturing divisions while also providing contracted engineering services to a variety of outside customers. The facility has design, analysis, testing, prototype, composites, and motorsports departments, and develops products for major automotive OEM’s and a growing number of niche vehicle manufacturers.

MTC is currently seeking to recruit a Program Manager with a range of skills to join the growing team.

Position Overview:

To undertake the program management of a stand-alone mid-sized project or a subsidiary element of a main vehicle engineering and development program. General project management responsibility for the planning of the project activities, management of the manpower & facilities resources and achievement of deliverables to quality, timing and cost.

Specific duties required for this project management role are as follows:

Undertake management of the development project element of the main vehicle program. Responsibility for the planning of the DVP&R activities through liaison with specialist functional areas. Execution of the plan through management of the test and development manpower resources, allocation of prototype rigs vehicles, proving grounds and test facilities. To ensure test result outcomes and feedback to enable engineering sign-off of vehicle performance attributes. Ultimate responsibility for achievement of the development program to quality, timing, performance and cost.  Lead/Coordinate projects via a hands on approach.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver project plans for new proposals and existing projects through liaison with functional departments leaders
  • Manpower and facilities planning, ensure resources are available to support project activities, liaise with functional areas to ensure replacements are provided if necessary.
  • Risk planning and management throughout project
  • Manage project timing within overall program plan; track progress changes and develop recovery plans when necessary
  • Control project spend within allocated budget using forecasting tools
  • Ensure quality of deliverables from functional departments, manage achievement of project deliverables at program milestones, and facilitate customer sign-off at gateway stages
  • Collate and deliver progress status reports
  • External customer liaison and reporting for stand-alone projects
  • Maintain project file directory database, ensure configuration control for project documents and reports
  • Support and adhere to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management systems
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner
  • Be involved in DFMEA, PMFEA, DVP&R, FEA, Product drawings, Identification of key characteristics, control plan and design review processes
  • Consulting on and resolving quality issues as they arise
  • Responsible for interfacing/interacting with internal departments (testing, design, analysis, prototype, mechatronics, etc) to ensure project deliverables are on track and progressing in a timely manner
  • Maintaining open communication with various interacting departments including other divisions of Multimatic, as necessary
  • Reporting on program status and identifying critical issues
  • Being primary point of communication interface with the customer for the respective program
  • Providing customer presentations and technical support on new product launches both within the company and with the customer
  • Develop resource plans to support new projects to enable flawless/successful product launches
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct line departmental supervisory responsibilities, but carries out appropriate leadership / project management of engineers, tool makers and assembly technicians and within an engineering program. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, reviewing and presenting work amongst the program team.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have Engineering degree, diploma or equivalent experience / background
  • M.B.A. in project management stream / P.M.P. is an asset
  • Minimum 8+ years of auto industry experience with 5+ years of program management experience is a must
  • Must be able to read and fully interpret Engineering Drawings and Standards (Applicable GD&T knowledge preferred)
  • Intermediate computer skills in Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Microsoft Project, Internet, Flowcharts, and an understanding of Databases, CAD, software
  • High level of organizational skills required.  Able to effectively organize and manage competing priorities; utilize effective problem solving techniques
  • Leadership, person management and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively interact with outside customers, suppliers, and all levels of employees internally

Ability to travel and fluency in English is required.
