The Multimatic Mechanisms Group manufactures high quality, closure hardware systems for all vehicle applications. With facilities in North America and Europe, and representation in all major markets, the Multimatic Mechanisms Group is a world-class full service supplier providing stamped, profile, cast and forged hinge systems for all applications including door, hood, trunk, lift gate/deck-lid and sliding doors and closure checking, assist and power devices. 

Multimatic Mechanisms is looking for a Mechatronics Buyer that will report to the Assistant Purchasing Manager, and will be responsible to obtain competitive quotes related to all mechatronics forward procurement activities utilizing approved suppliers. Provide source recommendations considering the best landed cost to the local divisions. Support new supplier selections to meet business growth demands related to technology and increased capacity. Contribute to mechatronic commodity strategy documentation.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Attend quote kick off meetings relating to mechatronic programs at each division to discuss and identify suppliers and make a supplier list who can produce and quote the parts for every new project
  • Obtain any required drawings or descriptions to enable potential vendors to submit accurate quotes.
  • Gather and document NDA and RFFI (Request for Financial Information) and any other relevant tendering data from new vendors
  • Prepare appropriate Request for Quote [RFQ] packages and send to suppliers for new business quotations and ad-hoc cost savings/benchmarking activities.
  • Follow-up and communicate with vendors to ensure quote replies are received on time to meet quote review deadlines.
  • Visit suppliers as required to understand cost, quality, efficiency and overall supplier performance and capability.
  • Analyze and compile Quote Summary as quotes are received. Provide side-by-side (SBS) cost summary and analysis leading to sourcing recommendations.
  • As quotes are received, enter all quotes in the roll-up sheet and share with internal APQP divisions, meeting the requesting roll-up deadlines
  • Negotiate with vendors on commercial terms and technical aspects
  • Create and maintain a RFQ Cross Reference record of quote requests, replies and summary by OEM Manufacturers program designation.
  • Support cost saving initiatives developed by VA/VE, LTA, Rebates, Lean Activities, Supplier moves and leveraging.
  • Update and maintain the Supplier contact database /spend data/LTA’s and rebates
  • Knowledge of SAP systems is required
  • Work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Adopt and practice Kaizen Lean Manufacturing Principles and Concepts. Participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities.
  • Follow all general procedures where applicable as indicated in the GENERAL PROCEDURES section of the level III Procedure manual.
  • Follow all DEPARTMENTAL GENERAL PROCEDURES as well as procedures or process maps for this position.
  • Work in compliance and conform to TS16949 and ISO14001 standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications /Skills required :

  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Technologist College University degree/Diploma Certificate/ required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Automotive.
  • Broad understanding of machining, stamping, plastics, electrical components, and processing methods and procedures.
  • Familiar with PPAP submissions and Incoterms
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Must have a good knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power point and SAP.
  • Above average communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to successfully engage and interact with all levels of employees in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be able read, write and speak English. Other language skills would be beneficial.
  • Familiar with TS16949 and ISO14001 standards.
